Server side JEDF works on top of Java EE 7 compliant application server.
It uses RESTful API as transport layer and EJB for certain purposes.
Server side JEDF is deployed as EAR.
Client side is a merely java desktop application and there are at least three mechanisms, that can be used to distribute client application:
1) use built-in support of Java Web Start
2) use built-in support of JEDF Launcher (which is preferred)
3) simply copy main jar with libs to client machines (of course no autoupdate for client app in this case)
In cases 1 and 2, client application is deployed in WAR to any web container.

P.S.: Currently JEDF is only tested on Glassfish 4 App Server. Later (of course) there will be support for all major App Servers.
